Auto Show has faint green tint

A friend and I went to the Auto Show of the Palm Beaches Sunday afternoon, after lunch at CityPlace.
The crowd was light and many of the vehicles were anything but.

I received sticker shock when perusing the assorted SUVs, trucks and cars. I knew the Hummer models get junky gas mileage, but there were plenty of cars on display with only slightly better fuel efficiency.
Gas prices are on the way down, but that isn’t going to last forever.

Makes me wonder what the Detroit automakers were thinking all these years, fighting fuel standard increases and moving slower than an oceanliner to adapt to the changing market.
The bright spot is, there were a number of hybrids exhibited, from a number of manufacturers.

Some of the SUVs shown, including hybrids by Lexus and Ford, had mileage numbers firmly in the “not bad” category. If you just have to have a larger vehicle, there are options out there.
